A customer contacted me about a Beko DW601 integrated dishwasher that appeared to be completing its cycle without draining the water away.
Original Reported Fault: Dishwasher Not Draining
During the initial visit, I inspected and cleaned the dishwasher sump. A wet vacuum was used to remove the remaining water and clear food debris from the sump and drainage area.
The dishwasher was then tested three times, and on each test it drained correctly.
However, the customer later contacted me to report that the dishwasher was still not draining.
The Dishwasher Was Filling but Not Washing
On the return visit, further testing showed that the problem was not actually with the drain system.
The dishwasher would fill with water, but the wash cycle would then fail to start because the recirculation pump was not operating.
When the customer closed the dishwasher door and walked away, they naturally assumed that the wash cycle had started. When they returned later and found water still inside the machine, it appeared that the dishwasher had finished but failed to drain.
In reality, the dishwasher had filled with water but had never begun circulating it through the spray arms.
Glass Found Inside the Recirculation Pump
I removed the recirculation pump and its attached flow-through heater assembly for a full inspection.
A large piece of broken glass was found lodged inside the pump outlet pipe. The glass was carefully removed, and the pump assembly was checked for any further debris or damage.
Foreign objects such as broken glass can enter the sump and circulation system, even when the dishwasher filters are in place.
Faulty Motor Capacitor
The recirculation pump uses a 5.0 µF motor run capacitor to help the pump motor start and operate correctly.
When tested, the capacitor measured only 0.148 µF, which was significantly below its required 5.0 µF rating. This confirmed that the capacitor had failed and was preventing the recirculation pump from starting properly.
The faulty capacitor was replaced with a correctly rated replacement.
Dishwasher Fully Tested
After replacing the capacitor and reassembling the dishwasher, I carried out a full test using the 70°C wash programme.
The dishwasher filled correctly, the recirculation pump started, water circulated through the spray arms, the heater operated, and the machine drained normally at the end of the programme.
The Beko dishwasher was left fully working again.
Dishwasher Repairs in West Leicestershire
A dishwasher containing water does not always mean that the drain pump has failed. The machine may have filled but stopped before the wash cycle began, leaving the original water inside the sump.
Careful testing of the complete operating sequence is important before replacing any parts.
