Rangemaster OPLHD100BL cooker hood repair in Newtown Linford, Leicester

I recently attended a Rangemaster cooker hood, model OPLHD100BL, where the motor had completely seized.

The customer had been looking at the cost of replacing the motor, which would have meant spending over £600! on a brand new part. Before going down that route, I wanted to properly inspect the hood and see whether the existing motor could be saved.

After stripping the cooker hood down, I found that the motor was seized rather than electrically failed. The unit was carefully dismantled, cleaned and freed up. Once everything was cleaned, checked and reassembled, the motor started running properly again.

The cooker hood was then tested through its settings to make sure it was working as it should.

This repair saved the customer from buying an expensive replacement motor and avoided replacing a part that still had life left in it.

Why Cooker Hood Motors Can Seize

Cooker hoods work in a tough environment. Over time, grease, moisture and cooking residue can build up around the motor and fan assembly. If the hood filters are not cleaned regularly, this build-up can become worse and may eventually affect the motor or fan movement.

Common signs of a cooker hood motor issue include:

  • The fan not starting
  • Humming but no movement
  • Running at one speed only
  • Poor extraction
  • Burning smells
  • Unusual noise or vibration
  • Repair Before Replace

Not every fault means a major part needs replacing. In this case, careful inspection and repair saved the customer a significant amount of money.

At Leicestershire Appliance Repair, I always aim to give honest advice and repair where possible before recommending expensive replacement parts.
